... "was one that seemed to have one foot planted in the Middle Ages and the other in the emerging Renaissance (Fleming, 248)." In approximately 1305, the visionary Giotto began his frescos at the Arena Chapel. Giotto looked at his surroundings; he saw how things appeared in nature, and painted these objects in the same way. The impression of depth is found in his works, as was the appearance of focal points. In his masterpiece, Miracle of the Spring, Saint Francis is made the focal point. This is achieved by the coming together of the two mountains in the background in a crisscross fashion and meeting where the Saint is, simultaneously. Giotto uses the image of a sloping mountain to dra ...

... also come from CDs that are just bass. Everyone has experienced sitting at a stoplight when a car pulls up next to you with his or her radio is so loud your car starts shaking and you can't even think. The lyrics and beat of rock and rap may influence people to do such negative acts at such a young age. Sex plays an enormous part in music. Look at the way music artists dress, what they say in their lyrics or the music beat, and the title of the records. Some music artists dress inappropriately and wear next to nothing, in my opinion. We see the very popular Spice Girls, a new pop band, made up of five females, who target young girls dressing, or should I say not dressing, appropriately for ...
... showed all that hospitality they meant it. Of course, they didn't, the Europeans captured the Indians to be used as slaves. They were also slaughtered and raped because of resistance to leave their land. If any Indians refused to leave their land they would be killed. The women were raped for sick and disgusting reasons. Europeans didn't feel that the women, or men for that matter, were worth anything as humans so they were beat and raped without any thought about what they might be doing. As we watched the movie Roots, I noticed a part in the movie where they were on a ship and a man brings in a black woman, who was a slave. The man offered her to the ship's captain and referred ...
... Major Anderson of the United States Military established his headquarters at Fort Sumter. The fort itself was militarily unimportant to either side, yet it later became a significant symbol to both the North and the South. In the controversy that surrounded Fort Sumter, both Presidents attempted to act in the best interest of their nations. While Abraham Lincoln's decision superficially seems to be the wiser as the North won the war, Jefferson Davis's decisions truly proved to be more self serving to his nation's cause. As the number of Southern States that seceded increased, the federal forts captured or on the verge of being taken over by the Southern Confederacy also incre ...
... WINS, was the first radio station to broadcast rock and roll. They were only in it for the music. By the time WINS was part of the revival, the famous, unforgettable 1960's were there. For the next two decades, the United States did mot know what it was about to go though. It was going to go through drugs, war, and heartache. What helped this time of suffering, the rock. The youth looked to the music. It was not just in America, rock had gone worldwide. People had turned to the music because it made them feel good. Plus it helped getting high a lot easier. With the heavy use with drugs, rockers started to change their music. Hardrock was musicians getting high on stage. This musi ...

By one side the hippies continued such at as 60s. And by other side, the disco fever and platforms got to occupy an important place in the fashion. The flared line of bellbottoms was common. Platform shoes experienced its most playful and colorful look, and Afro’s hairstyle was fashionable. The 80s and 90s don’t have a representative trend. The old fashion, combined with the costumes of others cultures, make the fashion that we use now. The use of hippie or grunge clothes is common in some places, o ...
... over many different peoples and nationalities and often cruelly mistreated them. Until 1899, U.S. immigration officials asked arrivals which nation they had left, not their religion or ancestry. So oppressed people were listed under the countries from which they fled. Armenians who escaped from Turkey were recorded as Turks, and Jews who had been beaten by mobs in Russia were listed as Russians. This so called "new immigration" was different in many other ways from previous immigration. For the first time, Catholic an Jewish immigrants outnumbered Protestants, and still other arrivals were Muslims, Buddhists, or Greek or Russian Orthodox church members. Until 18 ...
... made him one of the best. Later in the 1400’s there was a painter by the name of Masaccio. This amazing artist had a special was of creating 3 dimensions in all of his paintings. As time went on, more talented artists, architects, and sculptors had found themselves as part of a special time in Italy. Masaccio life was short, and because of that he was not able to teach many people his skills. But his talent of light, color, contrast, and perspective didn’t go unnoticed. Artists now used what Masaccio had discovered in all of the paintings and drawings. And now the importance of lines was emphasized. Outlines in paintings made a huge difference in proportion and weight. In the ...
... Then Herb Pomeroy and Parker play once through the chorus. The trumpet and sax together here sound really fabulous. The two match each other with amazing accuracy. Following the chorus Charlie launches right into a solo. This solo shows Parker's command of his instrument. He is able to pack his solos full of information. He is double-timing through most of the set. He slides up and down pitches, is all over the range of his horn and uses a stop time to build tension near the end of his solo. With the end of Parker's solo, Pomeroy takes over and plays a solo on his trumpet. The notes Pomeroy plays strike me as intentional and deliberate. It seems that each note is very ...
