... tension headaches), nausea, dizziness, sleep difficulties, tight neck and shoulders, racing heart, trembling hands, and restlessness. Behavioral symptoms I felt were: a definite excess in smoking, bossiness towards others, compulsive gum chewing, I became critical of others, grinding of my teeth so hard that I am forced to wear a mouthpiece at night, and an inability to finish what I start. Some of the emotional symptoms included: crying, anxiety, nervousness, boredom, edginess, overwhelming sense of pressure, overwhelming anger, being unhappy for no reason, and very testy. Cognitive symptoms that I felt were: trouble thinking clearly, forgetfulness, writers block, long-term me ...
... evolve the band. As the years began to pass, the band was obviously beginning to grow musically. They had moved from simple lyrics like "Love me Do" to harshly aware reflections of life in their home country in "Eleanor Rigby"2. There were attempts, some more successful than others, to incorporate the other Beatles into the idea stage. George Harrison made this leap successfully with such tracks as "I want to tell you", "TAXMAN", and the psychedelic "Love you to". Ringo was featured in the humorous "Yellow Submarine" As the group matured, their creativity began to rely more on the effects and manipulations that they were able to produce in the studio. The Beatles agreed to end their tourin ...
... emphysema and lung cancer. The second type is sulfur oxides, which come from the burning of coal and industrial processes. Damage to materials, to vegetation, and to the human respiratory system are caused by the acid nature of oxides. The third type of pollutant is carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas against which humans have no protection. Hemoglobin, which is in the blood, combines with carbon monoxide and carries less oxygen to body tissues causing health and heart effects. Some health problems come from the exhaust fumes leaking into the interior of the automobile. Several hundred Americans die from CO poisoning each year. The fourth t ...
... scowl. "Have you heard the new album?" he asks in his husky baritone. The applause is scattered. "Well," Vedder mumbles, "you're about to hear it again." With that, Pearl Jam edge into "Sometimes," the fragile ballad that opens No Code. "Seek my part," Vedder sings, pushing out the lyrics in a pained rasp. "Devote myself/My small self/Like a book amongst the many on a shelf." The muted start seems to confuse the audience of mosh-minded twentysomethings, who are pumped for some of Vedder's girder-climbing theatrics. The fans are out of luck. Even when the band members kick into "Hail, Hail" -- the closest song to a classic Pearl Jam arena anthem on No Code -- they seem determined to ...
... private lives of the Greeks. They believed it could deeply affect human behavior. Greek music was built up of a series of distinct modes, each with it's own name. According to the doctrine of ethos, each mode was so powerful that it gave music the ability to influence human actions in a precise way. The Phrygian mode expressed passionate and intimate emotions, where as the Dorian mode produced forceful, rigid feelings. In later Greek history the doctrine of ethos was widely argued by the most philosophical of men. Plato and Aristotle both had broadly different views on the power and importance of music. The persocratic philosopher Pythagoras was even interested enough in music to develop t ...
... per part. Included in the string quartet there are the first and second violins, a viola, and a cello. A quartet does not have a conductor like the symphony does, but they didn't need one because they weren't intended to be played for many people. Mozart and Haydn were known for having "jam sessions" in Mozart's apartment. An rarely known fact is that Haydn is the creator of this genre, not Mozart. Sonatas are multi-movement works that are for a solo instrument or an instrument with accompaniment that uses different forms of music. Many classical composers like Mozart and Haydn wrote many of these for the piano for their students to practice, needless to say, they were not intended ...
... favorite song is the title song, "The Demon Barber of Fleet Street". It tells the story of Sweeney Todd. Although what Sweeney Todd does is wrong, I did feel sorry for him. He had lost his family and lost his mind also. Mrs. Lovett helped him for two reasons. She needed the money and she fell in love with him. I first saw this musical when I was very young. It is still one of my favorites. George Hearn plays Sweeney Todd and his singing is great. But it is Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Lovett that I like best. I would recommend this musical to anyone. ...
... mixture of many different genres; jazz, rock, R&B and funk, to name a few. Much of the music had no singing and the songs were very long and complicated, involving different parts and many complicated solos. In between songs each musician performed solos on their instruments, which proved the talent, they held on their instruments even more. The bassist was the most impressive, though. He soloed for probably a half an hour doing things that seemed impossible. He slapped with amazing speed and precision, played the most difficult runs and slides and kept the entire audience in awe for the entire half an hour. Not to downplay the other musicians, because each of them were amazing in ...
... the language for sacred text. Thus, the Latin spelling for 'in the style of the chapel' - a capella - has some historical basis. However, most other musical terms - forte, accelerando, and many others - are Italian in origin. Since the Italian spelling is more consistent with other musical terms, it has been used more frequently. Given the difficulty of spelling our favorite style of music, we'd like to endorse the simplicity of a single spelling: a cappella - two words, two "p's", two "l's." singing without instruments Acappella Joining the two Italian words together to make Acappella is a popular variation in the U.S. For many streetc ...
... is a misnomer and could more correctly be changed to Western Art Music or European Art Music. European because most of the major composers up till the 20th century were European. Vivaldi was Italian, Bach was German, Mozart and Beethoven were Austrian; they are some of the more prominent composers. Not until the twentieth century with Gershwin and a few others do we find American composers writing this kind of art music. For the sake of convention, we can refer to Western Art Music as Classical music. Jazz is a distinctively American form of music, and it's history occupies a much smaller span of time. Its origins are found in the early 1900s as some dance band leaders in the souther ...
